Southwest London is about to get a serious infrastructure upgrade that’s been years in the making. Starting June 23 (weather permitting), construction crews will begin extending Bradley Avenue from White Oak Road all the way to Wharncliffe Road South, bringing one of the city’s fastest-growing areas a shiny new four-lane connection.
But this isn’t just your typical road project. The Bradley Avenue Extension is basically getting the full treatment – we’re talking new sidewalks, in-boulevard bike paths, street lighting, upgraded underground infrastructure, and even an open drainage channel that’ll help manage stormwater while protecting nearby natural areas from flooding.
The project is happening in coordination with Phase 1 of the White Oaks Tributary Complete Corridor, which sounds fancy but essentially means they’re adding natural heritage features and drainage improvements to support future development in the area. It’s like giving the neighbourhood a complete makeover from the ground up.
“This is more than just roadwork, it’s an investment in how we move, grow, and live in southwest London,” says Doug MacRae, Director of Transportation and Mobility. The extension will close a crucial gap in the corridor that’s been limiting connectivity in one of London’s busiest growth areas.
Here’s what residents need to know about the construction timeline: the project is being tackled in stages to minimize disruption. In 2025, crews will focus on the stretch between Wharncliffe Road South and White Oak Road, including that new drainage structure. At the same time, they’ll be upgrading the existing road between White Oak Road and Jalna Boulevard.
The good news? One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction throughout the construction between White Oak Road and Jalna Boulevard, though drivers should expect some temporary short-term closures when needed.
The 2026 phase will continue work on the Wharncliffe to White Oak stretch with underground infrastructure upgrades and road reconstruction, expected to wrap up by fall 2026. The final touches – including surface paving and landscaping – are scheduled for spring 2027.
This extension builds on the first section that was completed in 2017, which runs from Wonderland Road South to Wharncliffe Road South. Once complete, the entire corridor will be a four-lane complete street supporting everyone from pedestrians and cyclists to drivers and transit users.
For residents and businesses in the area, the City hosted an in-person drop-in meeting on June 25 at the South London Community Centre Gemmel Room, where project team members were available to answer questions about construction plans and timelines.
The project aligns with the City’s Official Plan and Mobility Master Plan as part of their long-term strategy to manage growth in London’s southwest. Traffic signals will be installed at the Bradley/Wharncliffe and Bradley/White Oak intersections, and the entire project includes watermain and storm sewer upgrades along with new curbs, gutters, and medians.
