Sometimes you see something on the road that makes you question everything you thought you knew about vehicle transport. That’s exactly what happened to multiple London drivers yesterday morning when they witnessed what can only be described as peak Canadian ingenuity meets questionable decision-making.
Around 8:30 AM on Wednesday, July 2nd, commuters along Wharncliffe Road between Baseline and Horton were treated to an unusual sight: a sedan attempting to transport a four-wheeler. Not on a trailer, not in a truck bed, but literally half-in and half-out of the car itself.
The scene was so bizarre that one witness initially questioned whether they were fully awake. The driver had somehow managed to get the ATV partially inside their sedan, with the other half hanging out onto the road, presumably rolling along in neutral. The whole contraption was apparently held together with what witnesses described as “really good” bungee cord work.
While the engineering might have been impressive in its own weird way, London Police Service officers on scene were less than thrilled with the creativity. Two LPS officers were spotted having what appeared to be a lengthy discussion with the driver, suggesting this particular transport method didn’t exactly meet provincial highway safety standards.
The spectacle continued into the morning, with the driver and his unusual cargo making their way to the Source for Sports parking lot around 9 AM, where police continued their conversation about proper vehicle transport protocols.
One witness described seeing the driver sitting on his bumper with his head down, presumably trying to come up with answers to questions like “why?” and “what were you thinking?” Meanwhile, the two officers were likely wondering if it was too early in the morning to process this particular brand of creative problem-solving.
This isn’t even the first time London area residents have witnessed questionable towing decisions. The region has a bit of a reputation for improvised transport methods, though most don’t involve front tires actually touching the road and turning while being “towed.”
The incident has sparked discussion among local residents about the ongoing ATV issues in neighbourhoods like Manor Park, where some residents have been dealing with unauthorized off-road vehicle activity. Whether this particular transport attempt was connected to those issues remains unclear.
What is clear is that London’s morning commuters got their daily dose of “only in London” content, complete with the kind of head-scratching moment that makes you immediately want to call someone and ask if they saw it too.
