London’s about to see a lot more police presence at pedestrian crossings this month, and honestly, it’s probably for the best.
The London Police Service has officially kicked off its April Traffic Initiative with a focus on pedestrian crossovers and crosswalks across the city. As the weather warms up and more people are out and about, police are stepping up their game to make sure everyone stays safe.
Road Safety Officers will be stationed at high-volume areas throughout London, keeping their eyes peeled for any crosswalk violations. While they’ll be focusing on education first, they’ve made it clear they’re not afraid to hand out tickets when necessary.
This isn’t just a random selection of locations, either. The police have teamed up with the City of London to identify the most problematic crossings — specifically targeting areas with the highest number of complaints and recent collisions.
With foot traffic expected to increase as spring settles in, the initiative serves as a timely reminder for pedestrians, cyclists, and motorists about their responsibilities at intersections.
The police announced the initiative via Twitter on April 2, urging Londoners to “stay alert, stay safe” and work together to make roads safer for everyone.
