Fire crews rushed to 1011 Adelaide Street North where they encountered the blaze in the four-storey apartment building. Firefighters from Engine 4 immediately deployed hose lines to conduct search and rescue operations while simultaneously working to get the fire under control.

The incident resulted in the closure of Adelaide Street North just north of Cheapside Street as emergency personnel managed the scene.
