A 20-year-old London man found himself in handcuffs after what can only be described as a chaotic overnight incident that involved property damage, theft, and hurling a beer can at police.
The drama unfolded early Tuesday morning around 12:40 a.m. in the Wellington and York Street area, when Nathan Firus decided to take his frustrations out on a local convenience store. What started as property damage quickly escalated into something much more serious.
Store employees weren’t having any of it and immediately called 9-1-1 as Firus began destroying property inside the shop. Multiple officers responded to the scene, but Firus apparently wasn’t done with his rampage.
In what has to be one of the more questionable decisions of the evening, Firus grabbed a can of beer and launched it in the direction of the arriving police cruiser. Thankfully, his aim was off and the projectile missed its target, but the gesture certainly didn’t help his case.
Police wasted no time arresting Firus, and thankfully no one was injured during the incident. However, the investigation revealed the situation was even worse than initially thought.
Officers discovered that Firus hadn’t just been breaking things for the sake of it – he’d also stolen property from inside the store. The damage he caused was significant enough that some items were rendered completely unusable.
The charges against Firus paint a picture of an evening that went from bad to worse. He’s facing assault of a peace officer with a weapon (thanks to that beer can incident), theft under $5,000, and mischief over $5,000.
The London Police Service has been pretty straightforward about the whole thing, releasing details of the incident on their official website and social media channels.
Firus is scheduled to appear in London court on July 17, 2025, where he’ll have to answer for his overnight antics. The investigation is ongoing, and police are asking anyone with information about the incident to contact them at (519) 661-5670 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
For those who prefer to stay anonymous, tips can also be submitted online to London Middlesex Crime Stoppers. The case has been assigned reference number 25-58009.
