London Man Caught Red-Handed After Smashing Business Window in South End

Well, this is one way to make your mark on a Friday morning. A 43-year-old London man found himself in handcuffs after what can only be described as a spectacularly unsuccessful break-and-enter attempt in the city’s south end.

The whole thing went down just before 1 a.m. this morning when a sharp-eyed citizen spotted something sketchy happening near Main Street and Campbell Street North. Picture this: someone literally smashing a window and crawling into a business like it’s some sort of low-budget heist movie.

Our observant Londoner did exactly what you’d hope they’d do – called the cops immediately. By the time London Police Service officers rolled up to the scene, though, the suspect had already bolted on foot. Classic move, except it didn’t exactly work out as planned.

Here’s where things get interesting. Police had a description of the guy, and with some help from the London Police Service Canine Unit (because honestly, who doesn’t love a good police dog story?), they tracked him down pretty quickly. The suspect was found just a short distance away, probably thinking he’d gotten away with it.

But wait, it gets better. When officers told him he was under arrest, this guy decided to try his luck with another foot chase. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work out any better the second time around. He was caught again, just a short distance away.

The real kicker? Police found a backpack on him containing approximately $2,200 worth of stolen items from the business. Talk about carrying the evidence with you.

Jamie Derek Kernohan has been charged with break, enter and theft, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with an undertaking. He’s scheduled to appear in London court today, which is probably not how he planned to spend his Friday.

If you happened to see anything suspicious in the Main Street and Campbell Street North area early this morning, London Police Service wants to hear from you.
