London Man Armed With Sword Gets Arrested After Weekend South End Robbery

A Sunday morning shopping trip turned into quite the adventure for one London business when a 36-year-old man decided to help himself to some free merchandise—and brought along a sword for good measure.

The whole thing went down around 9:30 a.m. on June 15th at a business near Wonderland Road South and Pine Valley Boulevard. An employee was just doing their thing when they spotted the suspect casually stuffing items into his backpack like he was packing for a weekend getaway.

When the employee approached the guy to presumably ask if he needed help finding the checkout, things took a turn. Instead of awkwardly explaining himself, the suspect decided to assault the employee and make a run for it without paying for his impromptu shopping haul.

Police got the call and showed up to the area with a description of the suspect. It didn’t take long—by 9:50 a.m., officers had tracked him down in the 3000-block of Wonderland Road South, just 20 minutes after the initial incident.

But this guy wasn’t done with his morning cardio. When officers approached and told him he was under arrest, he decided to channel his inner track star and took off running northbound on Wonderland Road. Spoiler alert: it didn’t work out for him.

Additional officers joined the pursuit, and the suspect was arrested a short distance away. During the search, police recovered the stolen merchandise and discovered he’d been carrying a sword—because apparently regular shoplifting just wasn’t exciting enough.

The employee who was assaulted sustained minor injuries that didn’t require medical attention, which is honestly the best possible outcome in a situation involving someone wielding a medieval weapon during a theft.

Daniel Timothy Lefurgey has been charged with robbery, resisting arrest, and failing to comply with a release order. He appeared in London court yesterday to face these charges.
