A garage fire on Coronation Drive turned into a full-blown emergency this morning, sending two people to hospital and bringing out the London Fire Department in force.

The fire broke out in the 2000 block of Coronation Drive. It started in the garage and spread fast to the second floor. Crews arrived to find the house fully engulfed.
Everyone inside got out safely, but two people were taken to hospital for smoke inhalation. The fire got intense quickly.

Fire crews got to work knocking down the flames. They deployed the aerial ladder to get at the roof and tackle hotspots that ground crews couldn’t reach safely.

Emergency crews set up a perimeter around the scene. Officials asked residents and drivers to avoid the area while they worked to extinguish the flames and secure the property.

Crews stayed on scene for hours, methodically working through hotspots and making sure the fire was completely out. The aerial ladder was key for reaching areas that ground crews couldn’t access.

By mid-morning, the London Fire Department confirmed the fire was fully extinguished and crews were released from the scene.

Everyone got out because the smoke alarms were working. The alarms gave residents enough time to escape before the fire got worse.
Fire officials are using this one to remind people about working smoke alarms. Test them regularly and replace the batteries.
Fire prevention investigators are now working to determine how the fire started in the garage and what made it spread so fast to the second floor.
