A typical Saturday afternoon in London’s north end turned into something straight out of an action movie when a 30-year-old man decided to steal someone’s car at knifepoint and then take police on a wild ride through the city.
The whole ordeal started around 2:45 p.m. on June 21st near Wonderland and Sarnia Roads, where someone was just trying to get out of their vehicle when they were approached by a complete stranger. That stranger happened to be carrying a knife and had some pretty clear demands about wanting those car keys.
After threatening the victim and making off with their ride, the suspect probably thought he’d pulled off the perfect crime. Plot twist: London police had other plans.
Officers managed to track down the stolen vehicle pretty quickly, spotting it in the area of Maitland and King Streets. But this is where things got really interesting – instead of pulling over like a reasonable person, the suspect decided to go full Hollywood and ram not one, but two marked police cruisers.
Because apparently ramming police cars wasn’t dramatic enough, when additional officers showed up and politely asked him to exit the vehicle and submit to arrest, he flat-out refused. The standoff continued with the suspect staying put in the driver’s seat, probably reconsidering his life choices at this point.
Eventually, officers had to break the driver’s side window and physically remove the man from the car to arrest him. The good news? Nobody got hurt during this whole chaotic situation, which honestly feels like a minor miracle considering everything that went down.
The man behind all this mayhem has been identified as Nolan Nogueira, and he’s facing a pretty impressive list of charges. We’re talking theft of a motor vehicle with violence, impaired driving, resisting arrest, operation while prohibited, and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle. That’s quite the rap sheet for one afternoon’s work.
Nogueira remained in custody following his arrest and was scheduled to make his next court appearance on June 25th to face all these charges. London Police are still asking anyone with information about the incident to give them a call at 519-661-5670 or reach out to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS.
