Just another Saturday morning in downtown London turned into quite the scene when a 34-year-old man decided to test his luck breaking into a business—and things escalated quickly from there.
It all went down around 6 a.m. on June 7th near York Street and Adelaide Street North, where someone spotted a guy trying to break into a business and did the right thing by calling it in. When London Police Service officers rolled up to check things out, they found Aaron Scott Wedge armed with a hand tool, actively trying to force his way into a building.
Here’s where things got interesting. When police told Wedge he was under arrest, he apparently decided that wasn’t going to fly. Instead of cooperating, he dropped his original tool and grabbed a piece of pipe, which he then used to threaten the officers on scene.
The situation continued to spiral as Wedge refused to give up without a fight, actively resisting arrest. That’s when officers made the call to deploy a conducted energy weapon (commonly known as a Taser) to bring the situation under control and get him into custody safely.
Thankfully, nobody was injured during this whole ordeal, but Wedge’s morning adventure has landed him with a pretty hefty list of charges. We’re talking break, enter and commit, possession of break-in instruments, assault of a peace officer with a weapon, resisting arrest, and breach of probation. That’s quite the collection for one Saturday morning’s work.
The case has moved pretty quickly through the system—Wedge was scheduled to appear in London court on June 10th to face these charges.
